Question on Putting:

Hi Maria! Do you have any advice to improving my 5 foot putt under pressure? Thanks!
--Federico S. from Alexandria, VA

Hi Frederico. Thanks for writing MyGolfInstructor.com. I'm looking forward to helping you with your game.

There is nothing worse than those knee knocker short putts when the nerves are on end! I can't comment on your stroke as I haven't seen it yet, but having a solid pre shot routine and calming method are key to staying focused.

A solid putting pre shot routine is similar to a full swing pre shot routine. You should obviously be taking your time lining up the putt, looking at it from all sides of the cup, making a couple of realistic rehearsal swings and staring down your aiming point.

After that it's time for a big, long, decompressing breath. This will help relieve a lot of tension and lower your shoulders which get high when you are tense.

I think you will find these articles beneficial as they help you prepare for the shot properly and stay calm. There is also one on short putts that will help:

I hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks!
