Question on Putting:

Maria how do you get the putter more solid in the left hand where you can keep it on line thru the stroke? I have developed a problem of the putter moving around in the back stroke.
--Donnie M. from Glennville, GA

Hi Donnie. Thanks for writing MyGolfInstructor.com. I'm looking forward to helping you with your game.

To keep the putter on line throughout your stroke and more solid in your left hand we need to first make sure that you are gripping it correctly and holding it in the right part of your hand.

Unlike the full swing where we grip more down in the fingers so that we can use our wrists and create more hand speed, in putting, we hold the grip more in our palms. This creates more "stiff" wrists and less hand action during the stroke. A good rule of thumb is to hold the putter against the lifelines in your palms. This picture here and this article will give you a good illustration:

Give this a try and see if it helps with what you are struggling with. If not, write back and we will then look into what's going on with your stroke.
Thanks
