Question on Shot Making:

How much do the hands matter in working the ball versus the set up and swing? Should my hands be the reason that causes a draw/fade?

You can work the ball with your alignment, swing plane, grip or forearm rotation and sometimes a combination of all 4. The easiest way to work the ball is to do everything the same, but change your alignment. It really depends on the player though. Both a player's talent level and comfort level can have a lot to do with it.

I would recommend trying to play around with your alignment first. You may need to also add in a slight grip change (weaker for a fade or stronger for a draw). If those fail you can try to purposely swing more upright for a fade or flatter for a draw. It's good practice to try to control the amount of forearm rotation through the hit. Practicing forearm control can help with your timing and hand eye coordination. To use it on the course is usually best for very skilled players.
